ABOUT ANTHONY GUISEPPI-ELIE

An academic executive and entrepreneur who delights in establishing new transdisciplinary academic programs and taking biomedical technologies to market. Tony selectively consults in both these areas serving on the External Advisory Council of The Fowler School of Engineering at Chapman University, the NSF PIRE Center at Clark Atlanta University, and STEM-E. He selectively consults in medical diagnostics. Tony spent 15 years engaged in intrapreneurial and entrepreneurial industrial research and product development with W. R. Grace and Co, Molecular Electronics Corporation, Ohmicron Corp, and ABTECH Scientific, Inc. He was a Visiting Scientist (‘95-‘96) in Biomedical Engineering and the School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University before becoming Professor of Chemical and Life Science Engineering and Professor of Emergency Medicine at VCU/MCV in and Dow Chemical Professor at Clemson University in 2006. His scholarly interests are in engineered bioanalytical microsystems in the service of human health and medicine including bioelectrochemistry and bioelectronic devices, implantable bioactive hydrogels, in vivo biosensors for trauma management, and biochips for biomedical diagnostics and prognostics. He is Founding Editor-in-Chief of Bioengineering (2013) and is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Bioactive and Compatible Polymers, NanoBiotechnology and Sci and was an inaugural member of the NIH NIBIB Study Section on Biomaterials and Biointerfaces. Tony has published ca. 250 papers, 35 book chapters and holds 6 US patents. A Fulbright Specialist (Argentina and Poland), Tony was a 2014/\'15 Visiting Professor at L\'École Nationale Supérieure des Mines d\'Alès, the 2013 Avis Professorship Awardee at UTHS, the 2003 “Pioneers in Biomedical Engineering” Lecture Awardee at Purdue, and the SEAM Awardee from the Polymer Research Institute at Polytechnic University. He has lectured in the MIT PPST, is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (FAIMBE), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), a Fellow of the a Fellow of the Biomedical Engineering Society (FBMES), a Lifetime Member of AIChE, and holds memberships in ACS and MRS. He has taught engineering materials, biomolecular engineering, biosensors and bioelectronics, and nanobiotechnology. Expertise: Bionanotechnology; International technology reviews/transfers; Biomedical diagnostics technology development and commercialization.
