ABOUT GUILLAUME THERIEN
Venture CapitalistBusiness + Creativity + Technology -My first savings were dedicated to music and arts – from CD player to Columbia record subscription, from concert tickets to time spent watching MTV. With my curiosity and energy, the business side of the industry became a source of interest and drove my ambitions for my career. A graduate from HEC Montreal in finance, I was soon recognized for my collaborative approach, creative vision and my search for innovative solutions. Since day 1 of my professional journey, I acquired skills that positioned myself as a proven marketing business strategist who adapts to changes in industries and in their various clientele. I notably worked at BMG and Sony Music during the Napster era and led a experiential marketing agency with international clients at Mosaic (Montreal & Toronto), before taking up the challenge of democratizing opera as Director of Sales and Marketing for the Opéra de Montréal. The 10-sold out performances spectators) of the world premiere of Another Brick in The Wall - The Opera from The Wall by Roger Waters was a peak in my journey. Later, I also joined large entertainment companies in executive roles such as the TVA Group and the Just for Laughs Group, in addition to sitting on the boards of directors of Mutek, the Conseil québécois de la musique, Pop Montreal and Synapse C. I had the priviliedge of acting as the general manager of Zú, launching a non-profit organization initiated by Guy Laliberté whose mission is to gather, help and promote creative & tech entrepreneurs in the entertainment sector to develop world-class innovative projects. My role gave me the opportunity to support entrepreneurs in their creative process and business growth by facilitating access to the necessary resources for their development and their desire to transform the entertainment industry with disruptive technology and innovative business models. Throughout my career, I developed long lasting relationships with key players in the entertainment industries – from Los Angeles, to New York, to Paris and Canada. ‘’Connector’’ is a term that I dislike, however, I am maintaining my network by bringing added value & insights philosophy and a relationship approach (vs. transactional.).I am now Partner at Triptyq Capital, a $40M seed-stage venture capital firm that invest in companies developing technologies aiming to transform the media and entertainment industry.
