ABOUT GUILLAUME LONG
I am currently a Senior Fellow at the Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR), a think tank based in Washington DC. I also teach international relations at Sciences-Po, Paris. Prior to joining CEPR, I held several cabinet positions in the government of Ecuador, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Culture, and Minister of Knowledge and Human Talent. I later served as Ecuador’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva. Since its founding, I have been the senior diplomatic advisor to The Hague Group. At the multilateral and international level, I have led initiatives on tax havens, investment-state dispute settlement (ISDS) mechanisms, and a UN treaty on human rights and transnational corporations. I trained as a historian and hold a Ph.D. in International Politics from the University of London. My research focuses primarily on the international politics of Latin America, regionalism and integration in Latin America, multilateralism and collective action in the global South. I am also interested in international law, the geopolitics of the sea, conflict and conflict resolution, and, more generally, all things related to the workings of the international system, global governance, and the place of the global South within it.
