ABOUT GUIDO PANVINI

I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Social and Economic Sciences, Sapienza University of Rome, specializing in contemporary, social, and cultural history. My academic journey has taken me through diverse institutions, including appointments at the University of Tuscia, the University of Macerata, LUISS Guido Carli, the University of Perugia, Sciences Po in Paris, and the Alma Mater Studiorum of Bologna. I have further advanced my research through international fellowships, serving as a postdoctoral fellow at Yale University\'s MacMillan Center on Order, Conflict and Violence, a visiting scholar at KU Leuven’s Kadoc – Documentation and Research Centre on Religion, Culture and Society, and as a Marie Curie Fellow at the Centre d’Historie at Sciences Po in Paris. My research focuses on political violence, terrorism, social conflict, and extremism, with particular attention to civil wars, democratic transitions in Mediterranean Europe, and the impact of memory and legacy from internal conflicts. I actively contribute to scholarly networks such as Civitas – Forum of Archives and Research on Christian Democracy, the OESE (Observatoire des extrémismes et des signes émergents) at CRISS (Centre de Recherche Interdisciplinaire en Sciences de la Societé, Université Polytechnique Hauts-De-France) and the Scientific Committee of the Gramsci Foundation Annals. Since 2016, I have also been a member of the Advisory Committee responsible for monitoring the deposit of terrorism-related documentation at the State Archives and the Central State Archive, in accordance with directives issued by the Presidencies of the Council of Ministers in 2014, 2021, and 2023. I have authored numerous articles and books, including award-winning works on political violence in Italy during the 1960s and 1970s, and I engage with broader audiences through contributions to journals, media outlets, and academic conferences.
