My work is a constant romance with the unknown.” I am a Peruvian-born American artist working at the intersection of light, architecture, and public space. Throughout my practice, I harness light as a sculptural medium to create large-scale installations that invite contemplation of cultural heritage, community, and our evolving relationship to technology. In my work, the past meets the future. My fascination with light began on the shores of Lima, where the vast Pacific Ocean formed iridescent sculptural foam; bubbles expanding and dissolving as if breathing. These early observations continue to inform the formal language of my work. I first incorporated light into my practice following a transformative journey to Iceland, where witnessing the Northern Lights revealed to me the ephemeral power of illumination. Light possesses the ability to transcend social and geographic boundaries — we all connect to the light. Drawing upon critical cultural legacies and the landscapes in which I work, each installation is developed through direct engagement with site and architecture. Installing and programming each piece on location is essential to the process. Ultimately, the work connects the viewer, space, and light sculpture, merging them into a single experience. I collaborate with cities, cultural institutions, architects, and developers to realize permanent and temporary installations internationally. My work has been exhibited throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. I was a guest speaker at TEDGlobal 2014, a recipient of an NEA Visual Arts Fellowship, and have been included in the U.S. Art in Embassies Program and the Civita Institute NE Chapter Fellowship. Engaged in the development of permanent and temporary public and private art commissions internationally.
