About Greg van Houten

Before I became a lawyer, I was a high school physics teacher who loved breaking down complex concepts to make them easy to understand. I bring that same mindset to my work as a high-stakes commercial litigator, focusing on representing corporate policyholders in insurance-related matters.Leveraging my insurance litigation expertise, I am a leader in the corporate liability divestiture space (for both asbestos and PFAS), and I help clients navigate insurance renewals to ensure optimal policy wording. My passion for simplifying the complicated also led me to create PolicyholderPlaybook.com, a bi-weekly blog that shares strategies used by top insurance policyholder advocates. While insurance is a major focus of my practice, I’ve also handled cases involving professional negligence, oil and gas incidents, commercial contracts, and employment disputes. One of my most meaningful achievements was securing a class action settlement in an employment discrimination case that drove nationwide change. Pro bono work remains a cornerstone of my practice, and I’m proud to serve on my firm’s Pro Bono Committee.I am lucky and honored to have had my work recognized regionally and nationally. In 2025, I was ranked in the Chambers and Partners Guide as \"Up and Coming in Insurance: Policyholder.\" In 2024, I was a recipient of the ABA’s “Top 40 Young Lawyers” Award. I have also been named a “Rising Star” in insurance coverage by Super Lawyers, Thomson Reuters, from 20••••25, and “One to Watch” in insurance coverage, commercial litigation, oil and gas, and banking and finance by Best Lawyers for 20••••26.
