About Greg Thomas

Greg is the founder of Performance Systems Development. He has been active in energy efficiency since 1979. He was the first blower door trainer for low income programs in NY and PA in 1984. He developed and implemented the first utility low income multifamily energy performance contract in 1989, a $12M retrofit of over apartments, and designed and managed the first Home Performance program in the country in 1995. He was a winner of the 2005 R&D 100 Award for energy efficiency software design, along with the NREL and NYSERDA. In 2010 Greg received the Building Performance Institute\'s Lifetime Achievement Award. He is a past chair of the Efficiency First trade association, has served on the RESNET board and is past chair of Affordable Comfort Inc.(now the Home Performance Coalition). Greg has been educational program director for a number of national and international conferences, including the USGBC Greenbuild Expo. He has served as an adviser to a wide range of national and state entities including: the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, the US DOE Weatherization Assistance Program, the Energy Foundation and the California Energy Commission. He was the 2010 Summer Study residential program design track co-chair.

   Greg’s work at PSD currently focuses on designing software and efficiency programs that cost effectively combine prediction with measurement in the delivery of commercial and residential performance based whole building programs. Partners and customers for current work include NREL, LBNL, PNNL, Duke Energy, Los Angeles County, and Xcel Energy. Greg also heads up the DOE funded OpenEfficiency Initiative, providing support for commercial whole building programs to adopt DOE tools.
