About Greg Snell
Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience performing structural analysis on large load carrying structure. Expert in assessing the effects of loads traveling through a structure. Expert in the use of standard stress analysis techniques: finite element analysis and classical manual (hand) calculations. Successfully performed structural analysis and documented results to support hardware certification. Successfully used structural analysis experience and skills to conduct failure and reliability assessments on human rated structural systems that helped manage risk and assured safety for the customer. Worked with Structures Subsytem to develope hazard report control stratagies and appropriate verification evidence that validates controls. All hazard report work was an effort to mitigate catastrophic events due to hardware failure. In addition, innovative problem solver with strong communication and organization skills focused on client delivery and achieving service excellence. Successfully mentored a team of engineers regarding the basic structural analysis processes needed for hardware certification. Successfully lead negotiations with customers regarding the selection and use of operation and safety standards needed to satisfy a governing authority’s structural certification requirements.Specialties- Finite Element Analysis: FEMAP, PATRAN, I-DEAS, and MSC/NASTRAN Static Solution- Classic Stress Calculations using MATHCAD- Currently learning ANSYS- FORTRAN Programing- Risk Management and Safety analysis - Failure Modes and Effects Analysis- Structural Requirements and Standards
Experience
Principal Engineer Stress Analyst
Jan 2012 — Present
Performed structural analysis in support of hardware certification and build. Analysis consisted of creation of detailed math model of the structure to determine how the structure behaved under load and to identify critical load paths through the structure. Next applied critical loads to structural members and connection between members. Finally, performed both weld and bolt analysis to size and validate adequate connection between structural members. Structures modeled and analyzed included, but not limited to, oil field equipment skids and mud tanks used in the drilling process, boom and jib crane designs, and riser hang-off platforms. Mentored engineers new to the company.
