Founder and Executive Director of Pacific Whale Foundation and author of numerous books, scientific and popular publications. A pioneer in noninvasive humpback whale research in the mid-1970s, I founded Pacific Whale Foundation in 1980, and committed his new organization to educating the public, from a scientific perspective, about whales and their ocean habitat. I oversee the longest running humpback whale research programme off Australia (began in 1984), and have studied humpbacks in Hervey Bay since 1987. A world leader in addressing whale protection issues, and has pioneered responsible whale- and dolphin-watching programmes throughout the Pacific. A pioneer in non-invasive whale research, Pacific Whale Foundation was an early leader in educating the public, from a scientific perspective, about whales and the need for ocean conservation.Now celebrating over 37 years as an nonprofit organization, Pacific Whale Foundation conducts/funds humpback whale and blue whale research in Hawaii, Ecuador, Chile and Australia and studies of dolphins and toothed whales in Hawaii. Greg is widely acknowledged as an innovator and leader in marine ecotourism. Greg is an Invited Participant to the International Whaling Commission’s Scientific Committee and is a contributor to the subcommittees on Whalewatching, Southern Hemisphere Whales and Human Induced Mortality in Marine Mammals, is a Whalewatch representative to the International Whaling Commission\'s Conservation Committee, has served on the Hawaiian Island Humpback National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Committee, co-led the United Nations Environmental Programme\'s Regional Workshop on Marine Mammal Watching in the Wider Caribbean Region, leader in the Indian Ocean Rim Association Whale and Dolphin Workshop, trainings for Oman Whale and Dolphin Watching and has been active in international whale and dolphin watch development and conservation programs in the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and North and South Pacific regions.
