I’m a Structural Engineer in the Overhead Transmission Department of Burns & McDonnell’s Transmission & Distribution division, a role that gives me an opportunity to hone my specialization in the design of electric power transmission lines. I draw on my civil engineering education and background to assist with overhead transmission line projects throughout their duration. Working as a transmission engineer on these projects allows me to fulfill a wide range of duties, including preliminary engineering analysis, incorporating applicable engineering standards and cost estimates. I use a number of technological tools like PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, AutoCAD and other in-house software programs to complete project modeling and other components. I also maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Rural Utilities Service design manual, information that proves especially effective for overhead transmission lines that are partially or wholly constructed in rural areas.
