About Temur Akhmedov

With over 20 years of international experience, I help organizations turn sustainability strategies into measurable results. My work bridges the technical and human sides of energy efficiency, green building, and resilience—because lasting change requires both smart technology and engaged people.Since 2019, I have been based in Uzbekistan on what I describe as a humanitarian mission, supporting NGOs, businesses, and government partners in advancing sustainable development. I founded the Green Building Council of Uzbekistan (UzGBC), a non-profit that has organized high-visibility ecological events, including World Clean-Up Day and the Earth Day Festival. In 2021, UzGBC launched an innovative behavior-based program across 50 public schools in Tashkent, supported by the Swiss Embassy. We trained and certified nearly 200 teachers, reaching over students and their families—applying principles of behavioral economics to foster a culture of sustainability from the classroom outward.Currently, I serve as lead sustainability advisor to the New Tashkent urban development project, a flagship city planned for 2.5 million residents. I guide green building standards and certifications under LEED, BREEAM, and EDGE, while helping shape strategies for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and resilient urban design. Previously, I advised the IT Techno Park in Tashkent, where two office towers became the first buildings in Uzbekistan to receive BREEAM certification for design.My approach to sustainability is grounded in decades of practice across the United States and Central Asia. From 2012 to 2016, I designed and led Oklahoma’s groundbreaking \"20x2020\" program—the first statewide behavior-based energy efficiency initiative in the U.S—targeting $100 million in energy savings across more than buildings and 70 state agencies. That experience taught me that engaging people at every level, from facility managers to university presidents, is essential to achieving impact at scale.Today, I bring that same human-centered philosophy to my work as a public speaker and advisor, addressing audiences ranging from architects and engineers to students, government officials, and real estate developers. Whether guiding certification pathways, designing training programs, or speaking at public events, I am committed to building a future that is as resilient as it is sustainable.

1. Visiting Lecturer

   Ajou University

   Sep 2022 — Present · Toshkent, UZ

   Teaching \"Architecture Environmental Systems\" and \"Intro to Urbanism\"I began teaching the \"Architecture Environmental Systems\" course to third-year architecture students in 2022. The introductory course covers topics such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, energy management, sound management, and the impact of architectural forms on the environment both inside and outside of our buildings. I have been working in the USA on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and green building since 2005, which makes it easier for me to teach in English. This class is an opportunity for me to systematize the information and images I have gathered over the years. I have made over presentations in almost two decades, ranging from brief intros to two-day-long workshops. My goal is to put all that material into a semester-long course that motivates students to become better architects. This course also challenges me to learn new things and question my assumptions. I have also been invited to teach \"Intro to Urbanism\" at Ajou University in Tashkent starting with the Spring 2024 semester. This course will allow me to use my knowledge gained from studying urban sociology in the 1990s and everything I have learned about sustainable urban development over the years. Preparing for this course will require me to study quite a bit, but learning is one of my favorite parts of teaching. Teaching at a university is part of my commitment to expand my positive impact year after year, which has driven my work since my early days in sustainability in 2005.
