This role is a mixture of capability acquisition, continuous improvement, forensic investigation and research and development. I am responsible for the introduction of novel surface treatments to combat high temperature corrosion-fatigue mechanisms in nickel based superalloys. I manage a number of PhD students within our university network focussed on the mechanistic understanding of sulphidation and related mechanisms. My role also includes research on environmental barriers for ceramic matrix composite materials and developing novel test methods and procedures for environmental attack of coatings and substrates.

Materials engineer working on a mixture of environmentally assisted fatigue, sulphidation, diffusion coatings and high temperature oxidation processes. I have worked on air plasma sprayed coatings, rare earth ceramics for CMC applications and have a further specialism in shot peening. My roles have spanned technology development to failure investigation across Materials and Manufacturing engineering. I have extensive experience in aerospace metal additive manufacturing as well as plastic additive manufacturing. I am a Maker, 3D printer, laser cutter and nationally recognised STEM ambassador
