ABOUT GRAHAM VEITCH
I’m a software engineer and automation specialist with over 25 years’ experience building and stabilising enterprise systems, primarily in financial services, with additional work across telecoms and transport. Much of my work involves modernising legacy platforms, automating operational processes, and making complex systems easier to deploy, operate, and evolve.I’ve worked with organisations including HSBC, J.P. Morgan, Schroders, and Tesco Bank, delivering platforms where reliability, auditability, and performance are critical. My work often sits between development, operations, and business teams, helping organisations stabilise complex systems, modernise legacy platforms, and automate processes that used to require constant manual intervention.Much of my career has involved untangling systems that have grown complex over time: batch pipelines, integration layers, trading and reporting platforms, and operational tooling. I enjoy taking something slow, fragile, or opaque and turning it into something predictable, observable, and easier for teams to maintain.Technically my background spans software development, data engineering, DevOps practices, and automation frameworks, working across Unix/Linux environments and enterprise databases. I’ve built and maintained systems using technologies such as Python, Perl, SQL, REST APIs, Oracle, Sybase, and modern cloud and data platforms including Databricks.More recently I’ve been exploring automation and AI-assisted systems, experimenting with n8n and agent-based workflows including Microsoft Foundry.Across long engagements with Tesco Bank, Schroders, and HSBC, contracts were repeatedly renewed and permanent roles offered, which I think reflects a simple approach: understand the problem properly, keep things practical, and quietly deliver systems that work.Outside work I try to play guitar, record music, and enjoy experimenting with new tools and technologies simply to see what they can do.If your team is dealing with legacy systems, automation challenges, or complex integrations, I’m always open to a conversation.
