Development, design, application and sales of high performance quadrupole mass spectrometry systems with emphasis on solid state materials analysis by secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). This includes ion optical, mechanical and large UHV system design with a highly customer focused approach to problem solving. I travel extensively to train, assist and learn from our customers as well as making presentations at conferences and exhibitions. One of my first projects on joining Hiden was to develop a Caesium ion gun for depth profiling, This included a miniature, low power, surface ionisation source with a single electrical connection providing heating for both reservoir and ioniser. I undertake material analysis work for prospective customers and also manufacturing science issues (failure analysis and safety) within the company.
