Interaction Designer @UK Research and Innovation

View department →

During this 3-month+ contract, I spearheaded the optimisation of the Gateway to Research (GtR) search feature. My focus was on re-engineering the web application to align with UKRI UI standards and GDS patterns, significantly enhancing user flow and data discoverability. I worked closely with stakeholders to justify the move from legacy systems to a modern, accessible, and GDS-underpinned framework through rigorous prototyping and design critiques.

ABOUT GRAEME DEARIE

In my 10+ years working in UX Design (including Product Design, UI, Interaction Design, with the occasional senior and lead roles) I have worked in a number of industries including ecommerce, retail banking and finance, IT, public sector and currently energy markets. I’m an all-rounder Designer, that means I can do the user research, problem solve and I collaborate well with my colleagues and stakeholders. When I explore design ideas I use whatever fidelity the task-in-hand requires, from low-fidelity sketching to wireframes to high-fidelity and prototyping, where I love to use Figma. I like to know if my designs will work as intended, so user testing is important to me and I can do this via in-person or online, moderated or unmoderated. Finally, when my designs are developed and shipped, I’ve already identified ways to measure and track success.
