Graeme is the head of the Engineering and ICT practice group, and is a member of the Management Board. He has personally signed up to the IP Inclusive Leader’s Pledge and is committed to doing everything he can to advance our inclusive culture. It’s genuinely important to Graeme that we have an environment where everyone can bring their complete self openly to the workplace, and where diversity of experience, thought and perspective is valued and promoted.Graeme has over 20 years’ experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the mobile telecoms, distributed computer systems and consumer goods spaces. He is also experienced in providing freedom to operate opinions, to help inform pragmatic commercial decision making. He has particular experience in advising some of the largest British and Japanese multinational corporations on optimising their filing and prosecution strategies across Europe, to deliver robust patent portfolios in a cost effective manner. He also has enviable experience in helping to bring domestic UK SMEs through to realising their value in the marketplace.Graeme has a Master’s degree and PhD in applied physics from the University of Bath, with a focus on semiconductor devices, in particular terahertz technology. He also conducted postdoctoral research at l’Université de Paris-Sud XI, France and at the University of Bath. His postdoctoral research focussed on magnetic semiconductors, optoelectronic devices and display technologies.

Graeme is the Practice Group Leader of our Engineering & Information Communication Technology (Eng & ICT) team and has spearheaded the development of the team into one of the largest in Europe. He has over 20 years’ experience as a European and UK patent attorney, and he is a member of both the firm’s Management Board and the Partner Leadership Group. This experience means that Graeme brings a pragmatic and commercial perspective to his practice.Graeme works across a diverse range of technologies for several Blue-Chip corporations based across the UK, Europe and Japan and he manages a large number of global patent portfolios, EPO oppositions and freedom-to-operate projects. His approach is to integrate himself and his team with our clients’ in-house function to help generate lean, robust and commercially relevant IP portfolios, and to help identify, manage and mitigate the commercial risks presented by bringing new products to international markets.
