About Grace Varcadipane

Someone once asked me, “If there was a book written about your life, what would it be called?” Without hesitation, I answered with my title, “Wait, That’s Funny.” I am a big proponent of viewing life as neither good nor bad but rather neutral. With this in mind, I choose to be as optimistic as possible, although some hands in life aren’t always dealt fair. Since I could, I’ve always held multiple jobs at a time while pursuing a degree in Political Science (PPA) and American Studies at Siena College. When answering the question, “What do you like to do for fun?” I would love to answer with something along the lines of reading a bibliography about FDR with a good cup of coffee, but usually, what comes out of my mouth is throwing myself into my work. I’ve learned that to be successful, you must work hard, be confident in your abilities, and communicate what you can’t do. In doing this, however, I’ve also recognized that there will always be things you don’t love to do– it is called work for a reason. But the most important of my quarter-mid-life epiphanies is to laugh at all the ridiculous things that have happened because if you can’t get a kick out of these things, what else is there to do? My characteristics include being self-motivated, detail-oriented, working on projects that create value, quickly learning new techniques and trying to always learn and grow.Throughout my life, I have been dealt difficult hands, but sometimes the game is more fun when you believe you’re going to win. I apply this mindset in all that I do because, as my favorite quote reads, “Life consists not in holding good cards, but in playing those you hold well.”
