ABOUT GRACE FRAIN

Growing up, I lived on a horse farm in Delta, PA where I helped my mother care for and manage horses for over a decade. Working with these large animals has given me a plethora of experiences and taught me a lot about how to work with others, effectively plan ahead, pay attention to detail, be patient, practice risk and time management, and maintain exceptional organizational skills. There are many occasions on a horse farm where a simple slip up can cause a major accident, potentially even life threatening, in just seconds. These types of situations are what taught me how to be proactive in preventing incidents and to communicate clearly with my team to ensure proper care for our animals. Moreover, working with these animals in the saddle has taught me how to be detail-oriented and in full control of my emotional state. Horses are prey animals, making them extremely reactive to every movement, thought, and feeling that comes from humans. When in the ring, I have to be fully aware of what I am doing with my body and mind in order to execute exercises to the highest capabilities.In the case of competitions, the highest stress level in this industry, skills of time management and organization are of the utmost importance. Competing takes a lot of preparation and missing even one step in the preparation process can lead to a major loss the day of performance. Being able to manage your tasks effectively as well as stay within the required time frame is essential.I have been and continue to practice the skills I have learned through my leadership role as Captain of the WCU Equestrian Team and through my position as Recruitment Advisor of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. My hopes for the future are to further expand my knowledge and skill set with the help of an ambitious company.
