ABOUT GOWHAR GEELANI

The art of storytelling fascinates me. The magic does not lie in itching to tell the story. It lies in attention to detail. With 15 years of international experience as a journalist-author and editor, I value objective facts and fair treatment of people in the news, analyses, and commentary. As a storyteller, I produce rich content (text, podcast, and multimedia) in English and Urdu languages. I fluently write and speak English and Urdu, and understand German, Hindi, Bengali, and other languages such as Persian and Arabic. As a broadcaster, planner, and reporter with unbending assurance towards accuracy, I am skilled in digital content writing, feature writing, narrative journalism, editing, moderating current affairs shows (TV, radio, and web), and hosting sports programmes with a demonstrated history of producing quality content. Additionally, I am a resource person for personality development, leadership, and communication skills workshops. I have served Germany’s public broadcaster, Deutsche Welle, as editor in Germany. I covered the German parliamentary elections, the European economic recession, Euro Cup, besides extensively reporting on South Asian politics, human rights (Kashmir), literature, gender, and sports. After completing my Master’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism, I learned Deutsch (German) at IFS Bonn. I am a South Asian Journalism Programme (SAJP) Scholar; Chevening Fellow 2015; Munich Young Leader 2014. Also, researched at the University of Westminster. Moreover, I wrote a critically acclaimed book titled Kashmir: Rage and Reason (Rupa Publications 2019). The book has received rave reviews. Interviewed chief ministers of J&K, Member Parliaments, Leslee Udwin, documentary maker of “India’s Daughter”; Irene Khan, former Secretary General of Amnesty International and many other news makers. My interest lies in literature, especially the Holocaust literature; Kashmir; biographies; travels; cricket, travel and music. I also teach journalism and communication skills to journalism and IR students pursuing their master\'s and bachelor\'s degrees.Specialisation: Anchoring. Scripting. Narration. Visual storytelling. Planning shoot.
