About Gordon Oliver
I\'ve spent my life working with words. I’ve served as an award-winning business and metro reporter and editor for The Oregonian and The Columbian; provided writing skills coaching to high school students, adults, and university MBA candidates; assisted a prominent public works project manager in writing his personal biography; and led writing workshops for businesses and students. As a journalist I’ve seen my words move hearts and force constructive change institutions. As a news editor I’ve helped train young journalists to produce important, award-winning stories. As a writing coach and editor I’ve helped to train and inspire people to promote their businesses or write movingly about their lives. I am eager to use this mix of skills and experiences developed over many decades to work with others who share my belief in the power of the written word. I love to pass on my knowledge to business professionals and others by advising them on effective tools and techniques for good writing that I’ve acquired over a lifetime. While I continue to pursue opportunities in journalism, I also have a strong desire to help others as an editor and coach to break through the logjams that prevent them from communicating powerfully. My combination of a reporter’s instinct, an editor’s insistence on detail and fairness, and a writing coaches ability to teach writing techniques provide me with the tools to help any business, organization, or individual writer.
