ABOUT GORDON MCCORMACK

I am a quantity surveyor with over 5 years of surveying experience with an Msc with distinction in Quantity Surveying. I use my financial project management skills along with organisational and financial modelling skills to ensure projects and estimates are accurate and projects are run financially appropriate.In my previous positions as a senior quantity surveyor and current role as a quantity surveyor/estimator I have been responsible for monitoring all financial aspects to projects from managing material costs to managing sub-contractor costs for projects up to £6 million and running a number of projects at the one time. These projects include commercial, educational and social housing. Tasks include carrying out project valuations, price any contract variations and measure and check sub-contractor valuations ensuring all appropriate certificates are issued at the correct time in line with contract terms. Part of my role is to provide monthly cost value reports to demonstrate the project financial position of each project. I am also responsible for tendering for new projects which include pricing items from first principles as well as running a tender process for sub-contractor packages. My tasks include analysing all submissions and develop the most cost effective and compliant solution for all tender opportunities. To price projects I have used Conquest and evaluate estimating software and excel. I have had extensive training in excel and have used my excel skills in the past to develop various complex financial models including for MOD tenders where value of projects was up to £200m.I use my excellent negotiating skills to meet tight budget restrictions to meet the project and client demands. During projects I try to use my value engineering skills to help ensure projects come within budget. I have studied a foundation course in Quantity Surveying with RICS to help me with the pricing of contracts within the social housing sector.I ran 12 payrolls ranging from lawyers firms to investment banks. I took the clients through the whole payroll cycle; from input through to completion. I had to effectively manage my workload so that every deadline was met as well as reconcile the tax and NI.During my time with HMRC I trained in Tax, National Insurance and Statutory issues as i used to support employers with all the PAYE, NI and Staturtory issues involved in running a business.
