Cultural Folklore and Poetic MythFor me, visual art is a powerful and curious experience to put it mildly, and the journey weaves this way and that. Yet each step is purposeful and my paintings are personal signposts. It seems they lead me. Sometimes I will find out after a work is finished an element of the narrative that I was compelled to include yet didn’t know why. When this happens, it can be an odd surprise; like receiving an unexpected letter and it often informs and encourages the next work.This is an intriguing process to tap into. It may be that poetic myth or cultural folklore has such a complex weave and is so embedded in the psyche that we are drawn to the sense of mystery. I see recurring themes in my work that have remained with me for a long time and through a seeming process of refinement this ephemeral quality becomes clearer.

Full time effort in the visual arts is a blessed vocation. It can be argued that one\'s visual language is autobiographical, and thus the twists and turns of a lifestyle not only affects productivity but style and content too. I remain faithful to my personal manifesto to envigorate narrative realism on the finest linen with the finest hand made materials.
