ABOUT GORDON BELL
My career has given me a rare breadth of experience across the full commercial engine of a business – sales, planning, procurement, operations, supply chain, logistics, finance, HR and IT. I started in finance and qualified as a management accountant (ACMA), building strong foundations with UK PLCs including Rolls-Royce and Rexam.I then broadened my commercial perspective through senior roles in procurement, logistics and supply chain with British American Tobacco, gaining hands-on experience of cost control, margin management and performance improvement.Moving into the public sector, I helped establish and scale a national consultancy service supporting small and growing businesses, designing the business model, delivery framework, processes, marketing and performance tracking. This led to my appointment as CEO of an SME delivering business growth support, where I led re-positioning, re-branding and commercial transformation.Alongside this, I became actively involved in angel investing and co-founded Wallace Equity Ltd, working with early-stage businesses and founders on investment readiness, commercial models, growth plans and funding strategies.Today, I work as a Fractional Finance Director / CFO and strategic advisor to start-up, scale-up and growth businesses. I support founder-led, investor-backed and PE-backed organisations through high-growth and pre-profit phases, providing hands-on strategic finance leadership, business planning, forecasting, cashflow and runway management, valuation support and board-level challenge.A significant part of my work is helping businesses prepare for and navigate funding rounds, strengthen governance, improve commercial discipline and make better strategic decisions. I am equally comfortable operating at board level as I am working in the detail.I have supported owners and boards with company valuations for acquisition, sale and exit planning, aligning commercial strategy, financial performance and value creation. My experience spans technology and data-led businesses, professional services, manufacturing, construction, retail, public sector and sustainability-led environments, with exposure to renewables-linked projects through non-executive roles. At the heart of everything I do is financial leadership – bringing clarity, rigour and commercial pragmatism to help businesses grow, build resilience and protect value. Ultimately, it is about helping businesses become stronger, more confident and a little more comfortable
