ABOUT GORDON BELL
I am an English qualified lawyer specialising in complex, high value, disputes. I head the International Arbitration team at Gowling WLG. I am based in London and have more than 30 years experience in international dispute resolution. I work with clients in the construction, energy, oil & gas, mining, shipping, IT and defence sectors and have represented corporations and State Governments in litigation and arbitration throughout the world. I have appeared as the lead advocate in the English Courts and in international arbitrations in many jurisdictions. I have been lucky enough to work on a number of diverse projects with many great clients, experts and other lawyers. These projects include a metro in the Middle East; a gas field in Tanzania; a chemical plant in Northern Europe; a biomass plant in the UK, gas and nuclear power plants in India, Iraq, Egypt, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sweden, Turkey and the UK; solar plants in Europe, India and Uzbekistan; LNG facilities in Argentina, Qatar and the UK; an oil pipeline and marine terminal in Sudan; a gas field in Indonesia; a sulphur handling plant in Qatar; cement plants in Nigeria; a mine and port facilities in Brazil; an oil receiving terminal in Peru; a processing plant in Korea; a five star hotel in Kyiv; water projects in Iraq, Kurdistan, Bahrain, the UAE and Libya; the Beirut international airport in Lebanon and the construction of a super yacht built at a shipyard in Germany. As well as disputes, I advise clients throughout the life cycle of infrastructure projects, ensuring problems which arise are resolved quickly without the need for formal legal proceedings. On the defence and aerospace side, I have acted for a number of international contractors including in an arbitration against a Middle East State in relation to contracts to supply surface to air missiles, a fatal accidents claim against a defence contractor and for the consortium of engine developers and manufactures on the Airbus A400M programme. In addition to acting as counsel, I am available to take appointments to sit as an arbitrator, particularly in the fields referred to above.
