Gopi\'s current role is focused on developing long-term strategies since the day-to-day implementation responsibilities have been assigned to a younger set of managers. WHP sets up programs that streamline and consolidate already existing resources with the aid of management systems and technologies to extract higher value from them. This approach enables cost-efficient delivery of primary healthcare to underserved communities, mostly living in villages and urban slums. Gopi\'s experience in the earlier programs which includes Janani, one of the world\'s earliest social franchising interventions, has directly influenced the WHP model. His role is in ensuring that the focus is not on the technology solutions but on understanding prevailing practices and available competencies in the interior areas where the bulk of WHP\'s clients live and craft technologies to align with them. Currently WHP is moving toward the next phase where the chief objective is to reduce dependence on external donors. Gopi is leading the team to explore ways that can generate WHP\'s own resources so there is a firm plan right from the start of the projects to meet recurring costs, an element so essential for sustaining them at scale. During early 2020, Gopi led a rapid response team that modified and deployed a digital solution within five days of the COVID-19 lockdown. The solution was deployed across two large states of India (Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, combined population 170 million) and used a pool of 700 doctors and 1400 support personnel provided by the state governments to deliver healthcare and to identify COVID-19 suspects to the locked down populations.
