ABOUT GOPALAKRISHNAN CHANDRASEKARAN
I am an interdisciplinary scientist with a passion for unraveling the molecular mechanisms that drive embryonic development and fertility. My journey began with B.Tech degree in Biotechnology, followed by an M.Tech in Biotechnology, and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Chonnam National University Medical School, South Korea. My research has spanned diverse fields, from developing innovative assays for motile ciliogenesis and high-throughput drug screening in zebrafish and mouse models, to pioneering methods for culturing human epithelial cells and applying CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing. Currently, as a Postdoctoral Scholar at UC San Diego, I focus on the molecular determinants of oocyte competence and the oocyte-to-embryo transition in mammals, exploring RNA regulation, chromatin remodeling, and maternal effect genes. I am also actively working on deriving totipotent embryonic stem cells from primed human ESCs, aiming to establish new models for studying early human development and implantation. My work integrates advanced molecular biology, high-throughput sequencing, and computational analysis to address fundamental questions in developmental and reproductive biology. I am deeply committed to mentoring, teaching, and contributing to the scientific community through peer review and international collaboration. My long-term vision is to advance reproductive medicine and fertility research, bridging the gap between laboratory discoveries and clinical applications.
