ABOUT GOLSA RAHBARI

My family and I immigrated from Iran in 2016, so that my older sister and I would have the opportunity to achieve our dreams in a more equitable country. While many obstacles that existed for us in Iran do not here in the United States, minorities still face difficulties achieving dreams that are easily accomplished by others. That is why currently, I serve as the Revelle College Council President, where I represent and advocate for the student body. I also work as the only Undergraduate Representative on the Academic Senate Committee on Admission, alongside faculty and chairs, to discuss and improve the UC San Diego Admissions process. I also serve as one of the Industry Relations Coordinators at Design Co, where I work on promoting the design opportunities at UCSD and connect students with professional opportunities. Additionally, I am the student Marketing Assistant at Revelle College where I promote Revelle activities and opportunities to help make our community stronger, and lead Revelle Creative to allow for more creative expression in a STEM focused campus. While all these programs are somewhat unrelated to my major and the career I want to pursue, I believe they are necessary steps to ensure a better environment for me and those who have shared similar stories as me to live in. I am grateful for every opportunity, every experience, and every connection that has strengthened my ambition to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in the world, and I hope to continue working to make the world more humane alongside my passions of becoming an architect.
