Make Our Schools Safe (MOSS) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting students and educators, advancing school safety, promoting youth leadership, and supporting student mental wellness. Founded by Lori and Ilan Alhadeff in memory of their daughter, Alyssa, who was tragically killed in the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, MOSS works to ensure that no family, school, or community experiences a preventable tragedy. Our work focuses on three key pillars: • School Safety Advocacy – Advancing common-sense policies and legislation, including Alyssa’s Law, to strengthen emergency response and communication systems in schools. • Youth Leadership & Mental Wellness – Empowering students through MOSS Clubs, leadership development programs, community service initiatives, and mental wellness resources. • School Safety Projects – Funding tangible safety enhancements and emergency preparedness initiatives in schools across the country, including emergency response equipment, security infrastructure, and life-saving resources. Since our founding, MOSS has helped advance Alyssa’s Law in multiple states, supported countless schools and students, and partnered with educators, policymakers, public safety professionals, and community leaders to create safer learning environments.
