Software development rarely breaks because of technical limits. It breaks because the systems around it fail to evolve. Over the years I have learned that the real work is not in writing code, but in shaping the conditions that allow teams, products, and organizations to grow.Many companies still treat software development as a transaction. Internal teams move with depth but struggle with capacity. External teams move with speed but lack alignment. Both approaches miss the deeper opportunity: to build a technology organization that learns as fast as the business it supports.At Speed and Function, my work is to redesign how technology groups operate. We build co-managed organizations that integrate with the business, evolve with complexity, and strengthen over time. This approach draws on developmental practices and systems thinking.    I lead a developmental technology organization focused on building systems that strengthen over time. Our work is not limited to software delivery. It is about creating the conditions where teams, processes, and architecture evolve with the business they support.My role has been to guide S&F through a shift from transactional development to co-managed, long-term partnerships. We begin in familiar ways (often through outsourcing or staff augmentation) and allow the relationship to deepen as we create the conditions for more integrated collaboration.Over the years, this work has produced new approaches to scaling technology organizations and navigating complexity.Key contributionsIntroduced Technology Organization as a Service, a model for long-horizon capability building rather than short-term capacity.Developed Elastic Delivery, a way for teams to scale without losing coherence, alignment, or ownership.Created Triple Track Agile, adding a developmental track that supports learning, adaptability, and the intangible elements of high performance.Led S&F’s evolution into a Deliberately Developmental Organization, grounding our culture in clarity, reflection, and transparency.My focus now is on helping leaders build technology organizations that move with agility, learn quickly, and remain resilient as complexity increases.
