ABOUT SONJA BASSON
Sonja is a Senior Manager at Deloitte in Climate & Engineering with over 17 years of global experience in the Energy Transition industry. She has worked in the industry in Canada, Australia, Europe & Africa. As a market leader and Subject Matter Expert at the Convergence of Sustainability (Energy Transition), Power Utilities Transformation, Industrial Operational Technology (IT/OT) and Electrification. She is a Fellow of Engineers Australia, and a Chartered Electrical engineer in Ireland, and South Africa, as well as a registered professional engineer of Queensland. She is also a keynote speaker and an author of a book on personal resilience and growth. Sonja has a strong background in both base load and renewable energy sources, and understands the challenges and opportunities of integrating hybrid solutions for mining and grid operations. She has successfully managed and executed multiple capital projects, applying the latest technologies and best practices to enhance safety, efficiency, and reliability. Sonja is passionate about helping transmission and distribution network service providers navigate their pathways to uplift in capabilities for meeting the future demand of Integrated System Plans by leveraging data and security in both the OT and IT domains. She is at the forefront of the transformation of the energy industry and energy intensive operations. She not only understands the latest technologies that contribute to the sustainability of operations but where it should be applied, when it should be applied and how to apply it, right down to actually executing on it to realise the benefits. Sonja is a Fellow and Chartered Electrical Engineer of Engineers Australia, Ireland Engineers and South Africa and Registered Professional Engineer in Queensland. Sonja serves on the Electrical Safety committee for Queensland Government. Sonja leads go to market strategies for energy. In addition, she specialises in design of 24/7 industrial control environments with a focus on IT/OT convergence (AESCSF, 62443), remote operations, HMI, SCADA & Energy Metering.
