ABOUT GLENN BLACK

I began my career at the dawn of the electronic spreadsheet. SuperCalc and Lotus 1-2-3 weren’t just tools to me—they were keys to unlocking complexity. I dove deep, fast, and never looked back.Since then, I’ve built a career in corporate tax—specifically, insurance tax, where specialized rules meet deep structural complexity. My focus has always been on leading tax departments from the inside: designing and improving income tax accounting systems across GAAP, STAT, and IFRS; managing M&A tax implications; and developing tax strategies aligned with how each company defines success—be it distributable cash flow, operating income, or EPS. At the intersection of tax, finance, and systems, I’ve operated in the rarified world of annuities with living benefits and reinsurance—domains where complexity isn’t just a feature; it’s the landscape. And now, a new system calls.Artificial Intelligence has arrived, and with it, a new frontier of hidden mechanisms and emergent capabilities. AI isn’t a departure from my trajectory—it’s a continuation. I’ve spent a career working inside complex systems. Now, I’m working with one.My focus is shifting toward AI—its logic, its infrastructure, and its capacity to change the way we think, decide, and create. The arc continues. What drives me hasn’t changed: a passion for opening black boxes, mapping their inner workings, and making the complex both useful and understood.
