Without wanting to sound too cliché, I love my job!Nothing gives me more drive and purpose than waking up on a morning knowing that I can use my time and skills to do things which can make people’s lives better.At the start of my career I thought my calling was to provide joy through being a professional musician. After studying for three years at music college it was apparent that I was destined for a more technical career. I am still a musician in my spare time but my biggest impact is now through my problem solving abilities.As a civil engineer with experience spanning more than 25 years I have solved a lot of problems and worked on some interesting projects. All of my projects have positively benefited people and the environment in one way or another.During my career I have worked at all levels on civil engineering projects from technician to design engineer to project manager, programme manager and project director.I have prepared business cases, lead the design process, supervised construction, provided on site design support, written contract packages and administered contracts. All on many different projects ranging from small domestic projects to government infrastructure projects, flood alleviation schemes, dams, energy projects and nationwide telecommunications programs. Whether it is delivering project outputs or realising programme outcomes I always remain focussed on delivering excellence in a safe, cost effective, and environmentally conscious manner.Some of the projects which I have lead have been multi award winners receiving accolades for safety, design and sustainability. However, that was only possible due to the talent and hard work of the people who were in my teams.I love meeting new clients, new challenges and exploring how I can positively make an impact to people\'s lives and the environment.Did I say “I love my job?”
