About Gladys Ly-Young
A founding partner of Side x Side Architects, Gladys Ly-Au Young is driven by the social purpose of designing earth-friendly, community-based places that function well, create belonging, and promote health and sustainability. Gladys’ work is focused on the underserved population in mission-driven sectors, including affordable housing, community and cultural spaces, K-12 education, and social supportive services. She is known for creating engaging, uplifting, energy-efficient, and toxic-free community landmarks, including the White Center HUB Community Center and Housing, Nest Community Land Trust Housing, Othello’s U-lex Limited Equity Cooperative Homeownership Housing, and Friends of Little Sài Gòn Cultural and Economic Center.She holds a Graduate Certificate in Social Justice from Harvard University Extension School, an MS in Sustainable Design from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Bachelor of Architecture from Washington State University. For 30 years, she has practiced architecture at the intersection of design, sustainability, and equity.Gladys served on the 20••••24 International Living Future Institute Organizational Equity TAG and the Cultural Space Agency’s Governing Council President, and is currently on the Seattle 2030 District’s Board of Directors, and Housing Development Consortium’s Exemplary Building Task Force.
