ABOUT GITANJALI DASGUPTA
Gitanjali is an accomplished cleantech expert (> 15 yrs in lithium ion batteries, electric vehicles, high voltage systems). She excels at building partnerships and is passionate about how disruptive innovation (technology and otherwise) can accelerate positive change for the planet and people.At Electrovaya, an advanced lithium battery developer and manufacturer, Gitanjali has led transformative change on two fronts - business development and operational change. In the first half of her tenure Gitanjali was responsible for building a new division that quickly became the main pillar of the company: automotive advanced batteries for electric vehicles. In her first year, she put Electrovaya on the global industry leaderboard. Within four years, Electrovaya was winning Tier-1 contracts with Chrysler and others, outcompeting LG, Samsung, Panasonic and others while maintaining a North American production footprint. Highlights during this period include partnerships with Chrysler, ExxonMobil and Tata Motors. The second half of Gitanjali’s tenure saw her return to Electrovaya to pilot it through operational change as it pivoted to disrupting the industrial motive battery market. During this period, she oversaw engineering product development, large public-private projects, supply chain and system production in a bootstrapped environment. In terms of industry involvement, Gitanjali has been the Vice-Chair of Electric Mobility Canada, a co-founder of the Plug-in Hybrid Development Consortium, an advisor to the Canadian government and a committee member to the SAE, EDTA and EPA. She holds a MS in Mgt from Stanford Business School as well as degrees from Oxford and the University of Toronto.Gitanjali’s skills include- Building partnerships across diverse stakeholders including clients, supply chain, finance, government- Nuanced understanding re: commercializing technology in a complex global strategic context- Rapid understanding of fundamental technology and systems engineering- Applied insight into scaling technology from lab to demo to small and then volume production- Building alignment across engineering, R&D, finance and operations.
