ABOUT GIOVANNI PETTORRU

Giovanni Pettorru is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DIEE) of the University of Cagliari.His academic journey began with a strong foundation in economics and law, which later evolved into a deep-seated passion for technology. This transition led him to Computer Engineering, where he first explored the potential of Smart Cities by developing a parking occupancy detection system using magnetometer sensors during his Bachelor’s degree.He further specialized with a Master’s degree in Internet Engineering, focusing on network performance, security, and the optimization of the QUIC protocol for IoT applications. In February 2026, Giovanni earned his Ph.D. in Electronic and Computer Engineering. His doctoral research, titled \"Energy-Efficient and Trustworthy Location-Based Services for Next-Generation IoT,\" addressed the critical dual challenges of sustainability and reliability in connected ecosystems, providing innovative solutions for Green IoT and Location-Based Services (LBS).Currently, his research focuses on high-precision positioning systems and context awareness, leveraging drones as dynamic spatial anchors to enable seamless, real-time XR applications. Outside the lab, you can find me on the football pitch or capturing moments through photography.
