WORK HISTORY
Lead Software Engineer @Complexio
London, GB
Joined Complexio, a joint venture between major Nordic shipping companies with the intent of building AI solutions for that industry, in November on a 6 month contract to stand up a new team and deliver a greenfield AI product for a Greek shipping company. Key highlights- Led E2E delivery of an AI assistant that classifies all operator emails and generates a daily recap of vessels’ journeys extracting key updates (ETAs, cargo, crew). All-round team oversight with blended responsibilities of a tech lead, product manager and delivery manager- Designed, architected and built a Python-based system powered by an on-prem local Ollama-deployed LLM (Qwen 32B running on a VM with 2 L40S GPUs). System is made up of 3 main pipelines: one for classification, one for information extraction and one for summarization- Completed customer discovery, scoping, and feasibility within 1.5 months- Delivery commenced in January and concluded in April; final phase includes bug fixing, observability, and documentation (through mid June)- Model performance (as per benchmarking on sampled data): 100% recall on classification, 84% precision in key data extraction- Client-reported satisfaction: 86%, based on the accuracy of updates used in official communications

ABOUT GIOVANNI FANTINI
My two fundamental, inescapable character traits: a strong curiosity for the world, humans and their dynamics and a constant willingness to be recognised and valued. These traits continuously drive me to seek full understanding of the issues and choices I face. This might also be the key to understand my interests and passions: mostly, computers, programming and generically technology (which intrinsically possess the charming effects of knowledge and discovery), statistics and finance (the windows through which you can study human dynamics and \"animal spirits\"), languages and cultures (which provide the filters to better interpret the results) and entrepreneurship & management (which are the ultimate ways to standout, through the things you build and the people you lead).Early in my adult life I started working in a restaurant to earn pocket money as a waiter and then chef. It soon turned into a full-time effort when I started helping the owner scaling the street food sector internationally. Suddenly that temporary univeristy gig had turned in a very serious, fast paced job which led me to miss most classes my final year in school. I managed to still graduate from my Bachelor in Finance on the 15th of December 2016, straight after which I started working at Morgan Stanley as an Investment Banking analyst.Left MS to start my own venture (Thor Energy) to test my limits and to build onto the entrepreneurial spirit I always felt being part of myself with the dream of revolutionising the way the average person interacts with and consumes electricity. Change and improvement are only achieved by those who dare to think big, those who are willing to innovate. Achieved a modest return on the start-up, but most importantly learned a lot of hard lessons and found my passion in Tech. Started a career in it thereafter, which I am currently journeying in. Have been working in engineering software - backend and architecture mostly - with a focus in the latter part of my career on leading (by serving) great engineers in achieving their best, on engineering efficient processes around them and complex tech architectures with them. Currently on the hunt for my next opportunity in or around Tech with management and/or entrepreneurship in focus. Few examples of roles of interest- CTO / Founding Engineer in promising early stage start-ups- Head of Eng / Director of Eng / VP of Eng / Eng Manager in later stage start-ups or scale-ups- Blended tech / finance roles in VC funds, start-ups or similar (Engineer / Analyst, Technical Chief of Staff etc.)
