ABOUT GIOVANNI BOTTEGONI

Giovanni Bottegoni is a medicinal chemist who blends rigorous science with an entrepreneurial streak. After earning his MSc in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Bologna, he trained in world-class research environments such as The Scripps Research Institute (La Jolla, USA) and the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, where he advanced from postdoctoral fellow to team leader in computational drug discovery. In parallel with his scientific career, he strengthened his managerial expertise, earning a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Management of Biotech, Medtech and Pharma Ventures from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL, Switzerland) in 2014, followed by a Master in International Health Care Management, Economics and Policy (MIHMEP) with honours from Bocconi School of Management (Milan, Italy) in 2015. In 2014, he co-founded BiKi Technologies, a start-up bringing cutting-edge molecular modeling tools from academic labs to the pharmaceutical industry, and served as its CEO for two years before moving into both industrial and academic roles in drug discovery. At the University of Urbino “Carlo Bo,” he founded from scratch the Computer-Assisted Molecular Design Laboratory, assembling a team of young, talented, and diverse international scientists, and equipping them with state-of-the-art hardware and software to tackle complex challenges in modern drug discovery.
