ABOUT GIOVANNI CAMPA
I am currently R&D combustor engineer at Ansaldo Energia. I am resposible for the thermoacoustic analysis of combustion instabilities involving gas turbine combustion chambers. These analyses are performed both on existing Ansaldo Energia burners and on new prototypes. I have been supervisor of a PhD candidate involved in TANGO project (FP7-MSCA-ITN-2012 EU project) and supervisor for MSc student theses. I am currently involved as scientific contact of POLKA project (H2020-MSCA-ITN-2019 EU project), supervising a PhD candidate. My background is mainly related to thermoacoustics. I got my PhD at Politecnico di Bari under the supervision of prof. Camporeale. The topic of my PhD thesis is the prediction of thermoacoustic combustion instability in practical gas turbine combustors. During my PhD I collaborated with Ansaldo Energia for the generation of the numerical model applied to a practical machine. I was also visiting PhD student at the Engineering Department of the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Matthew Juniper. In Cambridge I studied the influence on combustion instabilities of nonlinearities in the flame model. I am author of 2 journal papers describing the numerical model I developed during my Phd. Additionally I am author of several conference papers, among which there are 7 papers submitted at the ASME Turbo Expo conference from 2010 to 2014. I have also joined a post-doc research at Politecnico di Bari for the numerical investigation of the fluid-structure interaction of blood and heart prosthesis. Additionally, I collaborated in the development of a new concept of wing profiles for sail boats. My task was to numerically examine the aerodynamics around the rigid sails.
