ABOUT GIORGIA PERRI

Hello, I am a research associate working on various interesting roles revolving around nutrition and health.Currently I am working on two projects. One of these is based at Newcastle University creating a Delphi study to determine consensus on biomarkers of ageing for human intervention studies. The second project is based at The University of Surrey where I am looking to create iodine risk scores in plant-based mothers and look at the association with their child\'s IQ.My PhD research explored the association of nutrition, specifically selenium on musculoskeletal health, such as sarcopenia and osteoporosis. During my PhD I gained a variety of skills to help me in my career transition. My research is desk/computer-based, where I analyse data sets as secondary analyses mostly using SPSS statistical software, with some basic knowledge in R. As the focus of my PhD research is data analysis, I have learned to use a variety of statical techniques including regression and linear mixed models in large, longitudinal, and randomised controlled trial data sets. Science and medical communications skills have been gained through writing and publishing manuscripts. To date, I have published one manuscript as the primary author and currently have a second one under review, with the aim to publish another two manuscripts before the end of 2022. Manuscript writing involves collaboration with co-authors to ensure everyone agrees with the content and methodology reported, time management as deadlines and responses are met, such as rebuttals and resubmissions and scientific writing, including copyrighting to produce clear work whilst matching the specifications of each journal. Other forms of science communication have been built upon during multiple oral presentations either in person or online at conferences or public events in a range of formats, such as 15-minute PowerPoints, 3-minute thesis, or poster presentations. The content and language used each time are adapted to suit the audience and maintain engagement and interest. Another example of scientific writing is producing a mini-review for clinicians and patients for the Royal Osteoporosis Society regarding Plant-Based Diets and Bone Health.I have also undertaken a volunteer role with the International Union of Nutrition Sciences (IUNS) where my main role is to create content to update and promote the website (Federation European Nutrition Sciences, FENS) and LinkedIn. The website posts and news updates are carried out using WordPress where I design and create content with updates and photos.
