ABOUT GIORGIA MONTALBANO

I am a Biomedical Engineer specializing in biomaterials for regenerative medicine and advanced manufacturing. My career in research and bioengineering began at Newcastle University, where I completed my Master’s thesis project on hydrogel-based systems for β-cell encapsulation in Type I diabetes. I hold a Ph.D. in Bioengineering and Medical-Surgical Sciences, with a focus on biomimetic scaffolds produced through 3D printing and electrospinning to support bone tissue regeneration. Over the years, I have actively contributed to major national and European projects, building strong collaborations with leading international and national institutions. My current research is centered on the design and fabrication of multifunctional, smart biomaterials and systems to support effective tissue regeneration and enable targeted drug delivery. Leveraging expertise in materials science and advanced manufacturing technologies, I have recently extended my work to applications in the energy and environmental sectors. I am a passionate and curious researcher, deeply committed to translating fundamental science into innovative solutions and new technologies that can positively impact society. Always enthusiastic about fostering collaborations and exploring creative approaches in biomedical engineering and beyond.
