ABOUT GIORGIA CARANO
Giorgia Carano has a background in continental tectonics, collisional orogens, and deformation processes within the crust. Her expertise combines geological mapping, petrography, structural and microstructural analysis to investigate the kinematics of flow, finite strain, and quartz microstructures in polydeformed rocks. For her thesis, she conducted a detailed structural study in a sector of the Himalayan range, integrating fieldwork, petrographic and kinematic data to develop a kinematic-tectonic model of the area. After graduating, she worked extensively in the field, primarily in the mining sector, starting with a gold project in Finland before moving on to exploration projects in America and Egypt. In the following years, she also worked as a remote consultant.Since February 2023, she has been a PhD student at Politecnico di Torino, focusing on Critical Raw Materials within the GeoSciencesIR project (PNRR Infrastrutture di Ricerca). This project is closely linked to the European CRM Act and aligns with sustainability and resilience objectives toward global carbon neutrality by 2050. As part of her PhD, she has also explored the application of remote sensing techniques in mineral exploration.
