ABOUT GIORGIA CAFICI
I am currently Research Fellow in Egyptology and Classical Archaeology at the Scuola Normale Superiore (Pisa). I received a BA in Classics (Archaeology) from the University of Catania and a MA in Oriental Studies (Egyptology) from the University of Pisa. Following an international competition I was awarded a PhD fellowship at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, where I attended the Corso di Perfezionamento (PhD School) in Art History and Archaeology. My PhD thesis focuses on Ptolemaic private portraiture. It was defended in 2017. I investigated Egyptian statues in the most important museums of Egypt (Cairo and Alexandria) and in some of the major European museums (including the Museo Egizio, Turin and the British Museum, London). During my PhD studies, I carried out research at the École Normale Supérieure of Paris, at the Brooklyn Museum in New York, and at the University of Oxford. I took part in several archaeological excavations in Italy and Egypt (Dra Abu el-Naga, Luxor). Since 2016 I am carrying out researches on the sculptures and sculptural fragments discovered by Carlo Anti at Tebtynis (19••••36). This project is carried out in collaboration with the Museo Egizio in Turin and the Università degli Studi di Padova. I am currently working on a research project focusing on the identification and thorough analysis of the items belonging to the Savoy and Donati collections now held at the Museo Egizio in Turin. My main fields of interest are Egyptian Art, Ptolemaic and Roman sculpture, history of Egyptian collections in Italy and Egyptological archives.
