ABOUT GINNY GARRISON MADDUX

There was no internet when I started in college admission. The Dean of Admissions had us working as a team to create ideas, develop programs, interpret information, and solve problems. Those years formed my understanding of the power of listening and learning, thinking broadly, learning from human interactions, and seeking connections between people and ideas. I am grateful I learned to think deeply, ask meaningful questions, wait for answers, and understand the power of connection and the importance of being valued. As technology developed, I recognized it as an amazing tool for helping to streamline processes, collect data, provide platforms where the data could be easily used, and educate and connect people. As a result, I have found ways to introduce CRM programs to colleagues, faculty, students, and parents in three schools and use online platforms to develop educational programming. Data has become an essential part of life and I am grateful to have tools that enable us to understand the complex, ever-changing world. In the spring of 2023, the Southern Association of College Admission (SACAC) honored me as the William Stalling Award for Mentoring recipient. For over thirty years I have worked to help young people identify their interests, strengths, and talents and find colleges where they can continue to grow and evolve. What I know to be true is that we are all designed to continue to learn and grow throughout our lives and I am grateful for the multigenerational relationships I have developed over the years.Bringing people together is one of my greatest joys. I am a foodie because food sustains us and it brings people together. As such, I enjoy cooking and entertaining. I am known for my cheese boards and the informal gatherings I organize. Our family garden provides us with veggies and flowers that we share with friends and colleagues and my children know where their food comes from. It is doing something from start to finish – projects, working with emerging adults, helping fellow professionals to develop, and planting seeds that produce vegetables and flowers that nourish the body and spirit that inspires me.
