   The MCSC is the state’s lead agency on volunteerism. Since the inception of the organization in 1991, the MCSC has been utilizing service as a strategy to address the state’s most pressing issues and empowering volunteers to strengthen their communities. In its 22 year history, the MCSC has invested more than $100 million in volunteer initiatives, leveraged $85 million in local funds, enlisted state residents in 29 million hours of AmeriCorps service, and engaged more than one million people in volunteerism. This is accomplished through the MCSC’s four signature programs: Michigan’s AmeriCorps, Mentor Michigan, Volunteer Michigan, and the Governor’s Service Awards. The MCSC administers federal funds for these programs, granted by the Corporation for National and Community Service, and is part of the Michigan Department of Human Services.
