ABOUT GINAH COLON

I\'m a people-focused Engineering leader. Whether I am leading a team of engineers directly, or leading a larger department, I focus on building trust by being action oriented towards removing blockers. I implement processes where it will help my teams move faster, not slower, by reducing decision fatigue and empowering them to take action. I use the frameworks and lessons I have learned in my MBA and as a leader, combined with my technical knowledge as a software engineer, to improve technology products focusing on customer experience and forward-thinking strategies.I have many strengths as an Engineer leader, I have outlined a few highlights below- MentorshipI have a passion for mentorship. I mentored undergrads through Mentor Jackets for years. At every company I work for I take on mentors either formally or informally. I even created a mentorship program for a 200+ engineering department that we expanded to aspiring engineers for employees that wanted to career pivot into engineering- CoachingI aim to be a great coach for engineers and engineer managers within my org. I accomplish this through Radical Candor and the 3 E\'s approach. As specified in Radical Candor, I provide timely feedback geared towards helping the individual grow based on their own goals. I use the 3 E\'s to ensure I provide Education via a book or course, Exposure by exploring opportunities to sit in on meetings or review documentations/presentations that are generally only seen at higher leadership levels, and Experiences by assigning projects to tackle something new in the area of growth- Strategy and VisionI am great at combining the needs and goals of Engineering Leadership, Architecture, Product, and the Business to determine the right mix of features, tech debt, and architectural changes that can be accomplished in a given time to produce a desired result for all stakeholders. Additionally, I am adamant that these potentially long running projects be broken down into workable milestones so teams can properly plan for them in an agile way rather than in a waterfall methodology while also providing business value to the end-user along the way. The goal is to plan several quarters ahead of desired delivery so requirements and cross-team dependencies can be worked out prior to engineers being hands-on keyboard.
