About Gina Masullo

I am an Associate Professor at the School of Journalism and Associate Director of the Center for Media Engagement, both in the Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin.I spent two years as an Assistant Professor at The University of Southern Mississippi\'s School of Mass Communication and Journalism after earning a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Syracuse University\'s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and a 20-year career as an online and print newspaper editor and reporter.Specialties: My research focuses on the online conversation around the news and how it influences social, civic, and political engagement. She has a particular interest in how online incivility influences the public discourse. She is the author of \"Online Incivility and Public Debate: Nasty Talk\"(2017/Palgrave Macmillan) and co-editor of \"Scandal in a Digital Age\"(2016/Palgrave Macmillan).
