ABOUT GINA BARGHOUTI
Refugee advocate and researcher with a wide range of direct experience in refugee resettlement, non-profit program coordination, trauma-informed case management, policy writing, qualitative & quantitative research projects and monitoring & evaluation of humanitarian programs.Currently serve as the Matching Grant & Employer Engagement Program Coordinator within the Workforce & Refugee Services division at the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO). Previous to IRCO, I managed cases under three federal Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) programs at Catholic Charities of Oregon. Roles include: employment support specialist in the Matching Grant program and as a case manager in both the Reception & Placement (R&P) and the emergency Afghan Placement & Assistance (APA) program. Previous to Oregon, I served as a research analyst with Triangle in Beirut, Lebanon. Worked alongside specialists and consultants on various policy, research, monitoring and evaluation, and media projects administered by Triangle. Projects included intensive research in Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, and Tunisia for several international organisations including the International Labour Organisation, GVC, UN Women, UNHCR, UNDP, Search for Common Grounds and AMIDEAST. I was credited in several publications and co-authored two policy papers on electronic money transfers and credit unions in Lebanon. Research and advocacy interests include refugee resettlement, refugee rights and protection, prison reform, addressing sexual and gender-based violence, and women’s legal protection and economic and social empowerment. Hold a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and minor in International Law from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon and spent one year studying International Relations and Conflict Resolution at Portland State University in the United States. Member of several social justice groups and activist initiatives on university campus and within the Portland and Beirut community. Currently based in Portland, Oregon USA.
