About Gil Hurwitz
Gil attended UCLA’s School of Engineering and Applied Science for both his undergraduate and graduate studies, where he received his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering with an emphasis on water treatment and environmental pollution remediation. Gil has spent his early career in product research and development for two environmental start-up companies, during which he co-invented and productized a patented nanofiltration-based treatment method for the enhanced reuse of industrial wastewater and an AI-based control software to improve the sustainability of water treatment plants. He also recently applied these fundamental principles as a global water technology consultant working on large-scale municipal drinking water treatment plants with an emphasis on membrane and advanced oxidation processes within wastewater potable reuse.Gil is passionate about the new role that water will play in our space-bound future, which he sees as fundamentally necessary to relieve the current environmental pressures seen on Earth. In doing so, he is devoted to ensuring a safe and reliable closed-loop water ecosystem to empower and support this new space community. When not in the lab, Gil enjoys engaging with his local community through volunteering and outreach or exploring new hiking trails with his family.
