ABOUT GIF THORNTON

I have been Managing Partner at Adams & Reese since 2015. In that role, I lead the 300+ lawyer, AmLaw 200 firm with offices in 10 states and the District of Columbia. I am a strategic thinker, and my job is to see to the implementation of our five-year strategic plan. A&R’s tag line is \"where you want to be.\" My passion is to make good on that claim, both for our clients and for our people. We talk a lot about community, collegiality, being connected, client service and cross-selling. Prior to my current position at the firm, I served as legislative counsel to a number of businesses, trade associations, and governmental entities with interests before Tennessee state and local government. I am a former member of the Davidson County Election Commission and have served as counsel to a number of statewide Republican campaigns. I served on the Transition Committee for incoming Governor Bill Lee and was appointed by him to chair the Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments. Former Nashville Mayor Karl Dean appointed me to the Board of the Metropolitan Development Housing Agency. I was the founding Chair of the Tennessee Business Leadership Council, and I am a former Board President to the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee.I have served in the community as a member of the Board of Trust of Vanderbilt University, as well as Brentwood Academy. I am an elder at Christ Presbyterian Church and serve on the boards of Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO and the Trinity Forum in Washington, DC.My wife Anna and I have four adult children. I enjoy running and have completed a number of marathons, including those in Boston, New York, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.Prior to law school, I worked in the Foreign Service as Special Assistant to the Ambassador at the American Embassy in Paris, France.
