ABOUT GIANLUCA LABELLA

Currently working in the Space Industry as a Satellite Systems Engineer, contributing to the development of satellite systems for space-based Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) applications. Skilled in programming languages for simulation and data analysis (Matlab, Python) and with basic experience of FEA, CAD, and CFD tools. Holding a MSc in Space and Astronautical Engineering from Sapienza University of Rome. I have strong digital skills, a curious mindset, and committed to continuous learning. I’ve always been passionate about sustainability and environmental protection, values shaped by my years as a scout. To achieve Net-Zero Emissions by 2050 I advocate for the combined use of all available low-carbon technologies including nuclear fission energy, to ensure a reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable future. As a volunteer, I work on raising awareness about light pollution, promoting access to dark skies and attentioning the economic, energy, and health impacts of bad lighting. This commitment led me to launch a science communication project (see Projects below), where I honed my outreach and technical communication skills. I’ve also engaged with public officials, contributed to local environmental policy discussions, and spoken at regional events to support smarter lighting practices. In my free time, I enjoy amateur astronomy, photography, sport, electronic music and keeping up with the news.
